MY MUSICAL ROOTS

Studying the rituals of our ancestors gives us insight in to our behavior,
Why we do what we do.

Music and sound, without doubt, are the most significant blueprints of our evolution.

It’s sometimes hard for me to describe how music affects me. What types of music affect me more than others. It is clear to me however that any music from Africa, ignites a fire in me.

Africa is the source of it all.

Primal rhythms, chanting
the invocation of entities,
Trance inducing and profound.

In a trip to Cuba, I was reconnected to my Afro- Cuban roots. I witnessed ritual and ceremony in a way I had not before and all lead by music. Humans lost in a primal existence that seemed of a very distant past.

It Seemed welcoming and viscerally meaningful.

It felt like home.

I was fortunate to recreate this recently in Miami, with a hall full of souls, eager to be taken on a journey not knowing where it would lead.

The trust in the room was palpable.

Thank you for that.
